Every car accident, no matter how minor, can cause serious injury in the wrong circumstances. However, the most dangerous car accidents with the worst injuries are rollover accidents. Rollover accidents are more dangerous for several reasons.
The biggest reason that these accidents are more dangerous is due to the lack of restraint. Your seatbelt is designed to hold you in place if you are hit from the front or back so that your body doesn’t slam forward, back, or out the windshield. Your airbag is there to protect you from head-on collisions that can cause whiplash and head injury. But there is no restraint or cautionary measures taken for most rollover accidents.
Some jeeps and other sport utility vehicles may have rollover protection built into the frame of the vehicle. Rollover bars can also be installed in the roofs of most sport utilities and jeeps if it does not come factory. However, this is a relatively small percentage of vehicles involved in rollover accidents.
Most vehicles have no rollover bars, no extra reinforcement. When your vehicle rolls over, there really isn’t any way to keep from being hurt.
Another reason that these accidents are so dangerous is because they have the potential to be multiple car accidents. When a vehicle rolls over on a busy street or highway, the vehicle has the potential to hit other vehicles in unique ways. For example, a van flipping onto its side could hit oncoming traffic, roof to roof.
